Jan-Hendrik Bürk is partner and part of the b2venture Fund Team, focusing on digital health, supply chain, and consumerized SaaS.
He first joined the firm as an associate in 2016 and became partner in 2021 at age 28, making him one of the youngest partners ever at a venture capital firm.
The eldest of six siblings, Jan-Hendrik grew up in a household where both sports and entrepreneurship were held in high esteem. “My grandfather was in the import-export business, so I grew up lugging stuff around a warehouse.” And his father turned a professional skiing career into a business as well. “I learned early on to take responsibility, to be passionate about the things I do, and have the courage to go for it.”
Tennis was Jan-Henrik’s path to the wider world - he spent a lot of his youth away from home to train for the professional circuit before an injury cut his career short. “After it became clear it was over, I recalibrated my priorities, finished school at age 16 and ended up at university.”
“I was born with a competitive streak,” says Jan-Hendrik, “and being diagnosed with diabetes early in life just added fuel to the fire and made me want to prove myself.”
"I go to the ends of the earth to help the companies I back succeed, whether it be assisting founders develop their business model or tackling any of the cross-functional issues around building a company that our early-stage companies face. I have seen a lot over the years and use everything at my disposal to ensure our portfolio companies can thrive.”
An internship at e.ventures (now Headline) during his second year at university got him interested in venture capital, and he knew pretty quickly he wanted to pursue it long-term. “I loved the versatility of it. The fact that you could switch gears between so many different industries and technologies and really develop your own view of the future, as long as you could explain your thinking. ”
He thrived in the entrepreneurial environment at b2venture when he joined the firm and quickly worked his way up. “We were thrown into deep water, so I worked very hard and learned to swim quickly. ”
The passion, intensity, and competitiveness Jan-Henrik has brought to every dimension of his life is also what he brings to the companies he supports: “I go to the ends of the earth to help the companies I back succeed, whether it be assisting founders develop their business model or tackling any of the cross-functional issues around building a company that our early-stage companies face. I have seen a lot over the years and use everything at my disposal to ensure our portfolio companies can thrive.”
